SUMMARY
REGARDING POTENTIAL REQUEST TO MODIFY REACTOR VESSEL SURVEILLANCE CAPSULE WITHDRAWAL SCHEDULE FOR VC SUMMER On September 20, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an Observation Meeting public teleconference1 with representatives from the Dominion Energy (Dominion). The purpose of the meeting was for Dominion to discuss its plans to submit a potential request to modify the vessel surveillance capsule withdrawal schedule for the Virgil C.
Summer Nuclear Station, Unit No. 1, and receive NRC staff feedback on what information would be needed to support the NRC staff review of the submittal.
The following topics were discussed:
The surveillance data for the capsules (e.g., what reactor pressure vessel (RPV) surveillance capsules have already been tested, including how many years into plant operation and fluence levels. The comparison of the surveillance data to the 40-year, and projected 60- and 80-year RPV fluence levels.
The capsules that have been re-scheduled in the past.
The number of capsules that remain; and whether the contents for all the capsules are the same.
