NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 MEMORANDUM TO:
Mohammed Shams, Director Division of Advanced Reactors and Non-power Production Utilization Facilities Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation FROM:
Louise Lund, Director Division of Engineering Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research
SUBJECT:
IMPENDING PUBLICATION OF TECHNICAL LETTER REPORT (TLR-RES/DE/REB/2022-08)
STATUS OF ADVANCED NON-LIGHT WATER REACTOR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: MATERIALS, CHEMISTRY, AND COMPONENT INTEGRITY REV.1 The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) has completed a technical letter report (TLR) entitled Status of Advanced Non-Light Water Reactor Research Activities:
Materials, Chemistry, and Component Integrity (ADAMS Accession ML22258A193).
This TLR documents work performed to support the NRC Vision and Strategy for Safely Achieving Effective and Efficient Non-Light Water Reactor Mission Readiness (ADAMS Accession No. ML16356A670).
The purpose of this report is to document the research activities related to materials, chemistry, and component integrity being conducted to support the review and regulation of advanced non-light water reactors (ANLWR). These activities align with the NRC vision and strategy developed to assure NRC readiness to efficiently and effectively conduct its mission for these technologies. Specifically, these activities support Strategy 2 of the NRC vision and strategy by enhancing ANLWR technical readiness and optimizing regulatory readiness. Staff representatives from the Division of Advanced Reactors and Non-power Production and Utilization Facilities in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation have reviewed a draft of this TLR, and the enclosed final TLR reflects the resolution of their comments. Nonetheless, please feel free to notify the responsible RES contact if you have any questions concerning the impending public release of this TLR.
RES has established an online quality survey to collect feedback from user offices on the usefulness of RES products and services. This survey can be found online at the hyperlink: RES Quality Survey.
