SUBJECT:
NUSCALE TOPICAL REPORT-107522, REVISION 0, APPLICABILITY RANGE EXTENSION OF NSP4 CRITICAL HEAT FLUX CORRELATION REVIEW SCHEDULE LETTER UPDATE
Dear Ms. Fosaaen:
By letter dated November 5, 2021, NuScale Power, LLC submitted Topical Report (TR)-107522, Revision 0, Applicability Range Extension of NSP4 Critical Heat Flux Correlation: Supplement 1 to TR-0116-21012-P-A, Revision 1, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21309A753 - package). Additional supplemental data tables were sent by letter dated January 14, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22014A248) - which will be included as Appendix A to the referenced TR.
On Thursday, August 25, 2022, during a clarification call NRC staff identified an applicable subset of data (ADAMS Accession No. ML22251A391) that was not originally provided in the Appendix of Supplement 1.
As a result of this clarification call, NuScale informed the staff on Friday, August 26, 2022, that they would provide a supplement to request for additional information (RAI) 9899, (ADAMS Accession No. ML22201A531) in order to address the CHF clarification questions. The draft supplement to RAI 9899 was placed into the NuScale electronic reading room on September 15, 2022. On September 26, 2022, staff informed NuScale that the supplemented information found in RAI 9899 was acceptable for docketing and on September 30, 2022, RAI 9899 was submitted as final.
Given that the new supplemental information was needed and required in order to complete the associated TR review, the staff has developed a revised schedule. This new schedule will ensure that the staff is able to provide NuScale with the safety evaluation with no open items for proprietary material review on December 7, 2022, in lieu of the originally proposed October 11, 2022. This 2 month extension is critical for the successful review of the additional technical aspects provided and will not require any additional staff hours to complete.
