Hi Daphne

I am providing links to the documents that I think will address your questions about the status of the Cimarron site (Sub Area I), in the hyperlinks to Documents in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).

The Cimarron site was divided into 16 Subareas labeled Subarea A through Subarea O (there are two Subareas O; one is the UP1 area and the other is the UP2 area) in Final Status Survey Plan for Unaffected Areas, submitted October 24, 1994 (ML092720449 ).

Accession Document Date Title Number

ML092720393 24-Oct-1994 Ltr Forwarding, "Radiological Characterization Report for Cimarron Corp's Former Nuclear Fuel Fabrication Facility, Oct 1994" and "Final Status Survey Plan for Unaffected Areas, Oct 1994".

ML092720395 31-Oct-1994 "Final Status Survey Plan for Unaffected Areas for Cimarron Corp's Former Nuclear Fuel Fabrication Facility".

ML092720396 31-Oct-1994 "Cimarron Radiological Characterization Report," Table of Contents through Chapter 7.

ML092720397 31-Oct-1994 "Cimarron Radiological Characterization Report," Chapter 8 through Chapter 10.

ML092720399 31-Oct-1994 "Cimarron Radiological Characterization Report," Chapter 11 through Chapter 12.

ML092720389 31-Oct-1994 "Cimarron Radiological Characterization Report," Chapter 12 Attachments through Chapter 13.

ML092720391 31-Oct-1994 "Cimarron Radiological Characterization Report," Chapters 13 through 19 and Figures.

SubArea I can be seen below:

Subareas A through E were Phase I (unaffected) areas, Subareas F through J were Phase II areas, and Subareas K through O were Phase III areas. The MOFF facility is in Subarea I, a Phase II area.

Cimarron submitted Final Status Survey Plan for Phase II Areas on July 25, 1995. You can access the documents in ADAMS at (Accession Number ML20202A434)

Subarea I can be seen on page 39 of 41 of ML20202A434

Upon approval of the final status survey plan, Cimarron Corporation performed the survey and reported it in Final Status Survey Report for Subarea I, submitted June 29, 1999. (ML20212L572 ).

Accession Document Date Title Number

ML20212L571 29-Jun-1999 Cimarron Corporation 1999 Final Status Survey Report for Sub-Area "I", Part 7 of 7.

The NRC performed a confirmatory survey for Subareas H, I, and M, and reported the survey results in in NRC Inspection Report 70-925/00-01 dated November 24, 2000 (ML003771426).

Subarea I was released for unrestricted use in License Condition 29 of Amendment17 to License SNM-928, which was issued April 13, 2001 (ML16194A371).

The release of the property for unrestricted use means that there were no restrictions placed on Subarea I regarding future land use. Barring some unexpected discovery of radioactive material, NRC has no continuing involvement at the site.

Let me know if there is anything further that you need. I am in the office today.

Thanks

Jim Smith
