UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 September 1, 2022 ALL AGREEMENT STATES, CONNECTICUT, AND INDIANA NOTIFICATION OF HOW THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION GRANT PROGRAM CAN BENEFIT AGREEMENT STATES (STC-22-053)

Purpose:

To inform the Agreement States of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) grant program and how the Agreement States may benefit.

Background:

The NRC provides grant money every year to schools with health physics and/or nuclear programs with the money distributed to students to cover tuition and fees. The NRC database of students has over 4,200 names with more being added each year.

Students awarded NRC grant funds must sign a service obligation that they will seek and secure employment in a nuclear-related job within 6 months of graduation. This employment may be with nuclear-related industries, State agencies, Department of Energy laboratories, the NRC or other Federal agencies, or academia in the students sponsored field of study. Students who are unable to secure a nuclear-related job can request a waiver in service obligation. There are instances where students found in non-compliance of the service obligation are invoiced to repay grant funds received back to the NRC.

Discussion: Agreement States may use the NRC grant program to find employees. Agreement States can send the job posting(s) to the Principal Investigator (PI) who implements the grant program at the respective university or trade school selected, and the PI will circulate the job posting(s) amongst those seeking employment. Please visit the Grant Awards Web site via the NRC Web page for additional information on specific schools and PI contact information (found in the links to the executive summaries). Further information is available at grants.gov.
