February 22, 2023 The Honorable Thomas R. Carper Chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Mr. Chairman:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is publishing the following document in the Federal Register:
Title:
Proposed Rule: American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code Cases and Update Frequency.
Description of the rule: This rulemaking proposes to incorporate by reference the latest revisions to three regulatory guides that list the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code Cases that the NRC finds to be acceptable. This would allow nuclear power plant licensees and applicants for construction permits, operating licenses, combined licenses, standard design certifications, standard design approvals, and manufacturing licenses to use the code cases listed in three ASME draft regulatory guides as voluntary alternatives to engineering standards.
Dates: The comment period for this proposed rule closes 60 days after publication.
For more information, see the enclosed document.
Please contact me at 301-415-1776 if you have questions or need more information.
Sincerely, Eugene Dacus, Director Office of Congressional Affairs
Enclosure:
Federal Register notice cc: Senator Shelley Moore Capito
