NRC attendees: Yen-Ju Chen, Alexis Sotomayor-Rivera, Christopher Sydnor WEC attendees: Michael Holmes, Wesley Jacobs, Donald Lewis, Jennifer Meneely On June 30, 2022, WEC provided the RAI response for FuelSolutions renewal application. This meeting is to clarify staff's questions on some of the RAI responses.
RAI 3-2. Fuel basket bolt is classified as category B. The staff questioned why the bolt was not considered as an item important to safety. WEC explained that the bolts were important during loading. However, during the period of extended storage, the bolts do not serve a safety function. No action is needed.
RAI A-RCS1. The staff asked for justification for the 5-year radiation survey frequency. WEC stated that, per FuelSolutions TS, general licensees (GLs) perform cask radiation survey at the time of loading. Then, the GLs rely on environmental monitoring to ensure compliance with 10 CFR 72.104. WEC uses the operating experience at Big Rock Point ISFSI as the basis for the survey frequency. Action: WEC will provide additional survey information from Big Rock Point ISFSI after the loading.
