Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) draft report GAO-22-105636, Nuclear Waste: DOE Needs to Improve Transparency in Planning for Disposal of Certain Low-Level Waste, which the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received on August 15, 2022. The NRC staff recognizes there are no recommendations for the NRC. The staff has legal and technical comments on certain statements made in the draft report.
