COMMISSIONER OSTRACH:

I belieie so, Mr. Chairman.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE~

Sam, am I going to have an affirmation session or discussion?

CO!v[MISSIONER CHILK:

Affirmation.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

Do we need him?

CUMNtISSIONER KfNHEDY:

He has a number of changes whicr'. he ;,,ants to call. to our attention.

f~ere he is.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

All right.

If we can come to order again.

We have now an affirmation session in hand.

Sam, do you,,£ant to start us out?

COMM I SS IONEFl CH ILK:

This is an affirmation of the i tern one order distributed to you by the, general counsel on the 8th of August together with a suggested revision distributed ~a you by Mr. Bradford on the same day.

It-'s the basic order that you,.:ce being asked to a+/-firm.

I believe the general counsel may have what I understand are some minor changes which he will relate to you.

cm,mrssroNER BIC[(WIT:

I have had a chance to relats tc sc.-:1e of the commissioners the changes.

I could run through them quickly 9 if that is what you would lika or you could taka 8J word that they are minor, with one exception.

your going afffirmation on the matter.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

There also is a comma here and a better word there at the last minute.

I don.1 t need to see those.

COMMISSIONER KENNEDY:

I have already checked them and found them satisfactory, and I agree with the sentence which Commissioner Bradford wishes to ad.

CO;;:\\MI SS ION ER CH ILK:

All of the co mm i ss ione rs have then agreed with the basic order, and the changes recommended by Mr. Bradford, you qualified your acceptance by noting his change without objection.

I would ask you to affirm.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

Those in favor?

(A chorus of ayes.)

C(H,Ui\\I SS I ONER KENNEDY:

In doing so, let me note, however, I want to note a particularly egregious article in the Washington Post this morning which was unfortunately inaccurate.

I would like to read the sentence to which the article was addressed, the sentence in the order being diametrically opposed to that view given in the Washington Post.

I read, 11 While real and substantial concern attaches to issues such as psychological distress and others arising from the continuing impact of the Three Mile Island accident unrelated to exposure to radiation to the citizens living

I wish simple to note that it has not been decided.

I would hope that our members of the Fourth Estate ~rdsent would take notice.

COi,\\MISSIONE>: GFL\\iJFORD:

I agree with that reading.

CHA IP.MAN HE;JfH E i Very good.

co;1U,\\I SSIONEf-i ;.31 CK\\'fIT; As the sources of some of that story, I might say-that I agree with that reading also.

CO/-.\\HISSIONER KEi\\JNEDY.;

I.,.m glad because it is plain En9lish.

The viord 11 not 11 has only one meaning to me, even tho ugh to some j_ t may have different mean in9s or misunderstandings.

CHAIRMAN HEi*:JRIE:~

'fou lose a not here~ you put one in there.

C();,\\NiISSIONEFi c<ENNEDY:

I always put them :Jack where they be long.

COr.1JvUSSIONE:-=i GILINSKY:

Of course, in cables they put not 1 repeat not.

COWlISSIONER AHEARNE:

You understand why.

COMr,HSSIONER KENNEDY:

It may be that in the future we're going to have to do that.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

Okay.

COMMISSIONER CHIU(:

That completes the

affirmation hearing.

CHAIRMAN HENDRIE:

That completes the affirmation session.

I would ask the commissioners if they could please 4

stay for another short session.

I had scheduledcontinuation 5

of the budget markup sessions both at this time for another 6

approximately 45 minutes and also for this afternoon.

It 7

seems to me that we will not this afternoon's meeting, B

and I don't propose to need anything more than a few minutes 9

this morning.
