ACCIDENTS SUCK
- What do you do if you get into an accident while on official travel?
- Make sure you are okay!
- Do you need to see a doctor? Ambulance? Emergency Clinic?
- Did you blackout? Have visible bruising already? Dizzy? Concussion?
- GET CHECKED OUT ASAP
ACCIDENT HAPPENED TO YOU Assuming you are okay:
Move the accident to a safe location if you can.
Take pictures of everything: cars, road, people, insurance, drivers license, police officer (ask),
citations, etc. Provide insurance in the glove box of the rental car.
Call branch chief/supervisor and regional/office counsel.
This is all valid if you are hurt in any way while working (fall from ladder, trip and break a bone, etc.). If you are at a site we fall under their first responder care.
ACCIDENT = PAPERWORK Call the rental car company.
Call other involved insurance.
FORMS!!!!
NRC 436, SF 91, OSHA 301 (ECOMP), rental car receipt, rental car accident form, police citations, police reports, etc.
Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) Program. (workmans comp) Still need to do the OSHA and FECA even though we have health insurance. (your office should have a contact to help with this)
YOU CAUSED THE ACCIDENT If you caused the accident and were in official capacity dont worryjust stick to facts. Dont admit fault - just relay the facts and provide all information requested.
Any claim for personal injury or property damage of another resulting from an accident in which the employee was at fault and the employee was acting within the scope of his or her employment would be considered for payment under the Tort Claims Procedure (28 U.S.C.,
Part VI, Ch. 171)

- You get sick while on TDY
- Dont travel home - inform your branch chief/supervisor and your stay will be extended
- Go to hospital if needed (deep vein thrombosis)
