Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Proposes $16,000 Civil Penalty to Mistras Group, Inc.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposed a $16,000 civil penalty to Mistras Group, Inc., for apparent security-related violations concerning their licensed operations in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The company is based in Burr Ridge, Illinois.

The NRC made its enforcement decision after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the event, the immediate actions taken in response, the licensees apparent cause and corrective actions taken to prevent recurrence. The licensee was also offered an opportunity to provide additional information for the NRC to review. Mistras provided further information in writing regarding the apparent violations.

The apparent violations were identified by the licensee and reported to the NRC in July 2021. Upon identification of the issue, the licensee took immediate actions to restore compliance with NRC rules and regulations.

Mistras has 30 days to pay the fine, dispute the fine, or request involvement from a neutral third-party mediator to resolve the issue.

Security related information will not be publicly available. However, the non-security related information is posted on the NRC website.
