SUMMARY

OF THE JUNE 2, 2022, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS RISK INFORMING THE LICENSE RENEWAL PROCESS AGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS XI.M33, "SELECTIVE LEACHING" AND XI.E3, "INACCESSIBLE POWER CABLES NOT SUBJECT TO 10 CFR 50.49 ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS" On June 2, 2022, an Observation public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff, NEI and other industry representatives concerning Risk Informing the License Renewal Process - Aging Management Programs XI.M33, "Selective Leaching" and XI.E3, "Inaccessible Power Cables Not Subject to 10 CFR 50.49 Environmental Qualification Requirements." Participants included personnel from the NRC, Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Industry and members of the public.

L. Gibson Summary:

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss two risk-informed aging management programs submitted by the Nuclear Energy Institute on January 12, 2022, NEI, Submittal of Proposed Revisions to Aging Management Programs XI.M33, Selective Leaching and XI.E3, Inaccessible Power Cables Not Subject to 10 CFR 50.49 Environmental Qualification Requirements (ML22019A292). NRC staff started with an overall presentation (ML22146A196). Then NEI addressed the NRC Staffs initial thoughts in their presentation (ML22152A094).

After the discussions on the Staffs initial thoughts on Selective Leaching and Inaccessible Cables, Industry and NRC staff engaged in follow up questions. At the conclusion of the meeting, the staff considered options for potential next steps such as a plant-specific audit of Selective Leaching and the Cables Pilot to walk through an example of the sampling methodology using EPRI framework. Also, the staff discussed future public engagement with more focused discussions from staffs findings. Lastly, the staff will continue review of new EPRI and associated industry reports as identified.
