Dear Mr. Dodaro:
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) , I am responding to your June 3, 2022, letter providing an update on the overall status of the NRC's implementation of the U.S. Government Accountability Office 's (GAO) recommendations and calling to my attention those open recommendations that the GAO believes the NRC should give high priority.
The open recommendations relate to the following areas: (1) the security of radiological sources and (2) the reliability of cost estimates .
The NRC appreciates GAO's efforts to identify opportunities to improve agency operations and recognizes the importance of addressing these issues. We take each recommendation seriously and appreciate GAO's recognition that the NRC has closed one priority recommendation since last year. Please find enclosed an update on the actions that the NRC is taking to address the remaining open recommendations .
