WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY - U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION FEEDBACK REGARDING EVINCI WHITE PAPERS (EPID NOS.: L-2022-LRO-0018, L-2022-LRO-0020, L-2022-LRO-0023, L-2022-LRO-0021, L-2022-LRO-0019, AND L-2022-LRO-0024)

Dear Mr. Schoedel:

By letter dated March 31, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22090A127), Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse),

submitted for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review, six white papers:

EVR-LIC-G0-002, Regulatory Analysis; EVR-LIC-G0-003, Deployment Model; EVR-SEC-G0-001, Safeguards Information Program Strategy; EVR-PGD-GL-001, Test and Analysis Process for Design and Development; EVR-SAR-GL-003, Functional Containment and Mechanistic Source Term; and EVR-PLD-GL-001, Composite Material Qualification and Testing. These six white papers describe proposed aspects of the eVinci micro-reactor for which Westinghouse desires to have pre-application interactions. The NRC staff was asked to perform a review of these papers and provide written feedback on each. The NRC staff completed its review of the six white papers and has found no major deficiencies for this stage of the pre-application process. The enclosures of this letter provide the NRC staffs detailed observations for Westinghouse to consider.
