The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will discuss the agencys annual safety perfor mance assessment of the Donald C. Cook nuclear power plant during an in-person public meeting scheduled for June 1. The two-unit plant, located in Bridgman, Michigan, is operated by Indiana Michigan Power Co.

The meeting will be held at 3 p.m., Eastern time, at the Silver Beach Center, 333 Broad St, in St Joseph. NRC staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will participate in the discussion.

The NRC determined that D.C. Cook operated safely during 2021. All inspection findings and performance indicators were green or of very low safety significance. As a result, the plant remains under the NRCs normal level of oversight. This oversight entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections are performed by two NRC resident inspectors assigned to each plant and specialist inspectors from the Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois.

The annual assessment letter for D.C. Cook and the meeting notice are available on the NRC website.Current performance information for Unit 1 and Unit 2 is also available and is updated on a quarterly basis.
