- Adam,
The NRC staff is in the process of reviewing the petition and the related public comments that have been submitted. Based on its assessment of the merits of the petition and public comments, the NRC staff prepares a recommendation for the Commission. The Commission will consider the petition, public comments, and NRC staff recommendation and then issue its decision. This process can 8 - 18 months to develop the recommendation, depending on factors including, but not limited to, the complexity of the petition and the number of comments received. Additional time is required for the Commission to evaluate and issue a decision, with the specific timing depending on the factors noted before as well as whether there are other matters before the Commission. At this time, you are welcome to submit your comment, but, unfortunately, we cannot provide assurance that the comment will be considered in the petition evaluation.
For more detailed information on the petition for rulemaking process, please refer to https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/rulemaking/petition-rule.html, and "The Petition for Rulemaking Process," Figure 1 (80 FR 60524; October 7, 2015) - ADAMS Accession No. ML14259A474.
Thank you, Stacy

[External_Sender] Re: NRC-2020-015 Public Protective Actions During a General Emergency
Hello Stacy,
First, I apologize for missing the comma in your name on the status page and incorrectly calling you Joseph. Please excuse the error.
Your response, unfortunately, does not answer my question. I appreciate you linking to the NRC
status page and the Regulations.gov page. I am aware of both and that is where I found your contact information.
The status page simply states the status is an "Open PRM". This is despite the comment period closing 15 months ago. Could you please answer the following questions or direct me to someone who can answer these questions?
What is the timeline for acceptance or denial of the petition?
Have the comments submitted by the November 2020 deadline been considered and dispositioned already?
Would it be "practical" to consider a new comment if submitted in the next 30 days?
I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Best regards,
Adam Stein, Ph.D.
