UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 The Honorable Salud Carbajal United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative Carbajal:
May 11, 2022 On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your April 29, 2022, letter requesting that the NRC extend the public comment period on the proposed rule on regulatory improvements for production and utilization facilities transitioning to decommissioning.
The public comment period was originally scheduled to close on May 17, 2022. Given requests from you and external stakeholders, the broad scope of the rulemaking, and level of stakeholder interest, the NRC staff has decided to extend the public comment period until August 30, 2022, for a total comment period of 180 days (six months). A notice of this extension will be published in the Federal Register.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me or have your staff contact Eugene Dacus, Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs, at (301) 415-1776.
Sincerely, Christopher T. Hanson
