Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC to Conduct Open House to Discuss 2021 Performance of Palisades Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2021 safety performance of the Palisades Nuclear Plant during an in person open house scheduled for April 26. The nuclear power plant is located in Covert, Michigan, and operated by Entergy Nuclear Operations Inc.
The open house will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Eastern time at the Covert Township Lions Club Community Center, 78085 CR 378 West, in Covert. NRC staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight will participate in the discussion, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site.
The NRC determined that Palisades operated safely during 2021. All inspection findings and performance indicators were green or very low safety significance. As a result, Palisades remains under the NRCs normal level of oversight. This oversight entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.
The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.
Plant inspections are performed by two NRC resident inspectors and inspection specialists from the agencys Region III office in Lisle, Ill.
The annual assessment letter and meeting notice for Palisades are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for the site is also available and is updated on a quarterly basis.
