SUBJECT:

U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REVIEW OF EXPORT LICENSE APPLICATION PXB235.01

Dear Ms. Podolak:

I am writing to update you on the status of your export license application (PXB235.01). The application is currently under review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), for the export of Category 2 quantities of Americium-241/Beryllium, and Cesium-137 to Iraq. The sealed sources will be used for oil and gas well logging operations. Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 110.40(d), states in part, if the Commission has not completed action on a license application within 60 days after receipt of the Executive Branch (EB) judgement, the NRC is required to inform the applicant in writing of the reason for the delay.

The NRC received the final EB judgment on December 20, 2021, but additional time is needed for NRC staff and management to complete its review of the export application.

You may contact Gary Langlie, the licensing officer assigned to your case, at any time.

Mr. Langlie may be reached via email at Gary.Langlie@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, 2/18/2022 X Peter J. Habighorst Peter. J. Habighorst Signed by: Peter J. Habighorst Peter J. Habighorst, Chief Export Controls and Nonproliferation Branch Office of International Programs
