U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Public Meeting Summary February 28, 2022
Title:
Public Meeting to Discuss NUGEQ Letter of December 22, 2021 RE: Consideration of Synergistic Effects Related to 10 CFR 50.69 RISC-3 Equipment Meeting Identifier: 20220092 Date of Meeting: February 22, 2022 Location: Webinar Type of Meeting: Observation Meeting Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of this public meeting is for NRC staff to discuss and respond to questions and concerns from the Nuclear Utility Group on Equipment Qualification (NUGEQ) related to a December 22, 2021 letter to the NRC. The letter was in regard to an interpretation of General Design Criteria 4 and synergistic effects related to 10 CFR 50.69 RISC-3 equipment.
General Details: The meeting was attended by approximately 65 NRC personnel and external stakeholders. Representatives from the Nuclear Utility Group on Equipment Qualification (NUGEQ) participated and precented their concerns and NRC staff engaged in asking follow-up questions and clarification. Members of the public were offered the opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff in attendance prior to conclusion of the meeting. The meeting started at 9:00am EST and completed at 11:00am EST, as scheduled. The meeting was held over the Microsoft Teams application due to current PHE concerns and in order to maximize potential participation by interested stakeholders.
Summary of Presentations: NUGEQ provided a formal presentation of the concerns listed in the December 22, 2021 letter. The presentation was added to ADAMS after the meeting and can be found at ADAMS Accession Number ML22055A483. The NUGEQ letter can be found at ADAMS Accession number ML22005A127.
Public Participation Themes: No significant questions or comments were received from members of the public.
Action Items/Next Steps: The NRC staff will review the NUGEQ letter and presentation with regard to regulatory basis and formally respond in writing, if necessary. No additional action items were identified.
