SAFETY EVALUATION FOR GE-HITACHI LICENSING TOPICAL REPORT NEDO-33914, REVISION 1, BWRX-300 ADVANCED CIVIL CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN APPROACH (DOCKET NO. 99900003)
Dear Ms. Catts:
By letter dated January 20, 2021, GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas, LLC (GEH), submitted Licensing Topical Report (LTR) NEDO-33914, BWRX-300 Advanced Civil Construction and Design Approach, Revision 0 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML21020A135), to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff for review. In that letter, GEH requested the NRC staff to review the design, analysis, and monitoring guidelines, and requirements for construction of a BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). GEH further requested that the NRC staff review this information and determine its acceptability for use in a future application for a construction permit or a combined license.
The NRC staff informed GEH that it had accepted NEDO-33914 for review in a letter dated March 4, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21048A244). By letter dated November 18, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21322A214), GEH submitted Revision 1 of this LTR for the NRC staffs review and approval. By letter dated November 29, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21323A091), the NRC staff provided the revised review schedule.
The NRC staffs safety evaluation (SE) for NEDO-33914, Revision 1, is available in ADAMS under Accession No. ML22020A035 (Package). The SE will support future meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, currently scheduled for March 18, 2022, for the Sub-Committee; and April 6, 2022, for the Full-Committee.
