UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 February 17, 2022 The Honorable Thomas R. Carper Chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510

Dear Mr. Chairman:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is publishing the following document in the Federal Register:

Title:

Revision of Fee Schedules; Fee Recovery for Fiscal Year 2022.

  • Description of the document: This is an annual proposed rule that would amend the NRCs current fiscal year (FY) licensing, inspection, special project, and annual fees charged to its applicants and licensees. These proposed amendments are necessary to implement the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act, which requires the NRC to recover, to the maximum extent practicable, approximately 100 percent of its total budget authority for the fiscal year, less the budget authority for excluded activities, through fees. Additionally, similar to FY 2021, this FY 2022 proposed rule would not assess fees for import or export licensing activities.
  • Dates: The public comment period will close 30 days after publication.

For more information, see the enclosed document. Please contact me at 301-415-1776 if you have questions or need more information.

Sincerely, Eugene Dacus, Director Office of Congressional Affairs
