The Hon. Bryan Newland Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs U.S. Department of the Interior 1849 C Street NW Washington, DC 20240
SUBJECT:
THE PRAIRIE ISLAND INDIAN COMMUNITY OF MINNESOTA
Dear Mr. Newland:
For many years, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has maintained a cooperative working relationship with the Prairie Island Indian Community, whose reservation is adjacent to the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Station. For example, the Prairie Island Indian Community is the first Tribe to join as a cooperating agency in the NRCs environmental reviews.
The NRC values its relationship with the Prairie Island Indian Community and is committed to continue working closely with the Tribe. We are aware that the Prairie Island Indian Community has purchased additional land to be included in the Tribes trust lands. Consistent with our Tribal Policy Statements encouragement to coordinate with other Federal agencies, we are willing to assist if you need further information regarding the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Station or our regulatory role. Should you need additional information, please feel free to contact me at 301-415-0595 or via e-mail at john.lubinski@nrc.gov.
Sincerely, John W. Lubinski, Director Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards January 20, 2022 Signed by Lubinski, John on 01/20/22
