Dear Mr. Magnuson,

I am writing to provide you with an update on the May 31, 2020, petition for rulemaking (PRM) that you submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20170B161). On June 18, 2020, the NRC docketed your petition pursuant to § 2.803 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), "Petition for rulemaking NRC action," and assigned it Docket No. PRM50122. Please reference this docket number on any correspondence you may have concerning the petition. On August 24, 2020, the NRC published a notice of docketing and a request for comment for your petition, Accident Source Term Methodologies and Corresponding Release Fractions, in the Federal Register (85 FR 52058). The comment period closed on November 9, 2020.

The NRC is reviewing the merits of the petition, past agency actions, and public comments received. After its review, the NRC staff will prepare a recommendation to the Commission, and the Commission will make and issue its final decision on your petition.
