Dear Mr. Coffey:
By letter dated November 16, 2020, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML20329A292), NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) submitted an application for subsequent renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-24 and DPR-27 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Point Beach),
respectively, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC, or the staff).
On October 19, 2021, the NRC staff held a public meeting with NextEra to discuss the contents of the Point Beach Subsequent License Renewal Applications. The staff began with the public meeting logistics including the agenda. The staff and applicant then discussed the applicants response dated October 1, 2021, (ADAMS Accession No. ML21274A053) to the staffs Set 9 request for additional information dated September 2, 2021, (ADAMS Accession No. ML21273A022) concerning cathodic protection of steel pipe. The discussion involved the approximate length of the fuel oil and service water systems approximate length of buried steel piping with the scope of subsequent license renewal and the approximate length of that amount that was covered by cathodic protection.
A member of the public asked a question relating to the information being discussed and how that related to the NRC staffs review process and evaluation of the information. An NRC staff member indicated that the information being discussed related to the applicants proposed aging management program being consistent the information contained in the NUREG-2191, Generic Lesson Learned for Subsequent License Renewal (GALL-SLR) Report, dated July 2017.
