[External_Sender] [WARNING: MESSAGE ENCRYPTED]For Review: Draft GAO Product on Federal Use of Performance Information in Decision-Making (103910)

September 30, 2021 The Honorable Christopher T. Hanson Chairman U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Dear Chairman Hanson:

Attached is a copy of a draft product for your review prior to its issuance. The report, entitled Evidence-Based Policymaking: Survey Results Suggest Increased Use of Performance Information across the Federal Government (GAO-22-103910), was done under engagement code 103910.

The draft report largely focuses on the results of statistical analyses we conducted on data collected by our 2020 survey of federal managers. To help expedite your review, the report identifies results of individual agencies, as applicable, in several places:

P. 14 P. 17 P. 20 Appendix II (p. 34)

Appendix IV (pp. 38-43)

Appendix V (pp. 44-68)

Because our findings are based on survey data, we largely consider the draft to be for your informational purposes. Therefore, providing your agencys comments on the draft report is optional.

If your agency would like to provide written or oral comments, we ask that you share them by October 21, 2021. We prefer written comments and request that they be provided electronically, but will accept comments provided in hard copy, orally, or in an unsigned e-mail message. These comments will be reflected in the final report.

Please direct all comments and any questions you may have concerning this draft product to Benjamin

Licht, Assistant Director [202-512-4862, Lichtb@gao.gov] or Adam Miles, Analyst-in-Charge [202-512-4614, Milesac@gao.gov].

This draft product has not been fully reviewed within GAO, is subject to change, and must be safeguarded to prevent its improper disclosure. Please do not show or release its contents for any purpose. All drafts remain the property of GAO. Upon request, all electronic copies of drafts must be destroyed and any hard copies of drafts must be returned. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely yours, Alissa H. Czyz Acting Director, Strategic Issues Attachment
