Robert Keating, Chair Boiler and Pressure Vessel Committee on Construction of Nuclear Facility Components American Society of Mechanical Engineers Two Park Avenue New York, NY 10016
SUBJECT:
LETTER NOMINATING NRC STAFF TO THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS SUBGROUP ON FUSION ENERGY DEVICES
Dear Mr. Keating,
I would like to nominate Mr. Juan F. Uribe as the authorized U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) representative on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME),
Subgroup on Fusion Energy Devices (Section III, Division 4) and on the Special Working Group on Fusion Stakeholders under the Section III, Division 4 Subgroup. Mr. Uribe is a Project Manager in the NRC Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Division of Advanced Reactors and Non-Power Production and Utilization Facilities. He is responsible for leading and coordinating the NRCs efforts to develop a regulatory and licensing framework for commercial fusion power plants. Upon issuance of this letter, Mr. Uribe will proceed with completing his ASME Personnel Form (PF-1) and Participation Acknowledgement Form.
In accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-119, "Federal Participation in the Development and Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity Assessment Activities," dated January 27, 2016, the participation on a committee of an NRC-authorized representative does not connote agency agreement with, or endorsement of, decisions reached by the committee, or of standards approved and published as a result of the committees efforts. Agency representatives participating on consensus standards developing groups will, to the extent possible, ascertain the views of the agency on matters of interest and will express views that are consistent with established agency views.
However, the NRCs endorsement of these standards, if desired by the NRC, would be part of a separate activity, such as incorporation by reference into rulemaking or endorsement in an NRC regulatory guide.
Correspondence should be addressed to:
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Mr. Juan F. Uribe M/S: O-12D20 Washington, D.C. 20555 Telephone: (301) 415-3809 E-mail: Juan.Uribe@nrc.gov October 21, 2021
Thank you very much for providing the NRC with the opportunity to participate in the work of your committee.
Sincerely, Louise Lund, NRC Standards Executive Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research cc:
