OF THE AUGUST 31, 2021, PUBLIC MEETING WITH TERRAPOWER, LLC TO DISCUSS THE ENGINEERING COMPUTER CODES FOR THE NATRIUM REACTOR DESIGN On August 31, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an observation public meeting with TerraPower, LLC (TerraPower) to discuss its Engineering Computer Codes for the Natrium Reactor design. Participants included personnel from the NRC, Terrapower, General Electric Hitatchi, Bechtel, PacifiCorp and members of the public.
The public meeting notice, dated August 31, 2021, can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under accession number ML21243A277. The meeting notice was also posted on the NRCs public website. The presentation slides can be found in ADAMS under accession number ML21239A164. The list of meeting attendees is provided as an enclosure.
The NRC staff began the public meeting with an introduction and pertaining logistical information. The NRC staff explained that the meeting was an observation meeting and that TerraPower representatives would provide the NRC staff with an overview of any expected Natrium engineering computer codes. The NRC staff also explained that a portion of the meeting would be closed to the public. During the public portion of the meeting, TerraPower discussed the engineering computer programs selection basis and the methodology maturation elements. At the end of the presentation, the public had an opportunity to ask questions. The NRC staff asked for feedback, concerns, and any improvements that can be made to the public meeting process, at the closure of the meeting.

Kennedy During the closed portion of the meeting, TerraPower representatives and the NRC staff discussed the engineering computer programs selection basis and the methodology maturation elements including the analytical approaches developed and used by TerraPower as well as the processes that are being put in place to support the maturation of methodologies for the Natrium design. The meeting concluded with a discussion for future pre-application engagement activities regarding the Natrium design.
