December 8, 2021 Gray Scribner, Chair ASME Committee on AIA Accreditation Brett McGlone, Chair ASME Section III Working Group on General Requirements

SUBJECT:

LETTER NOMINATING NRC STAFF TO ASME COMMITTEE ON AIA ACCREDITATION AND SECTION III WORKING GROUP ON GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Dear Mr. Scribner and Mr. McGlone,

I would like to nominate Mr. Yiu Law as the authorized U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) alternate representative on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME),

Committee on Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA) Accreditation and NRC representative on Section III, Working Group on General Requirements. Mr. Law is currently a Reactor Operations Engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and is responsible for quality assurance reviews and inspections of nuclear vendors and licensees. Mr. Law is replacing Mr.

Raju Patel who has taken on other duties within the NRC. Additionally, Mr. Patel will no longer serve as the NRC Representative on the Section III, Special Working Group on General Requirements Consolidation.

In accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-119, "Federal Participation in the Development and Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity Assessment Activities," dated January 27, 2016, the participation on a committee of an NRC-authorized representative does not connote agency agreement with, or endorsement of, decisions reached by the committee, or of standards approved and published as a result of the committees efforts. Agency representatives participating on consensus standards developing groups will, to the extent possible, ascertain the views of the agency on matters of interest and will express views that are consistent with established agency views.

However, the NRCs endorsement of these standards, if desired by the NRC, would be part of a separate activity such as incorporation by reference into rulemaking or endorsement in an NRC regulatory guide.

Correspondence should be addressed to:

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Mr. Yiu Law M/S: O- 04 B01 Washington, D.C. 20555 Telephone: 301-415-0523 E-mail: Yiu.Law@nrc.gov

Thank you very much for providing the NRC with the opportunity to participate in the work of your committees.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Louise Lund, NRC Standards Executive Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research cc:
