NRC Input into Annual Data Collection for FY 2016 and Beyond Date: Friday, July 13, 2018 9:47:13 AM Attachments: image001.png
Dear Gloria,
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has been under considerable pressure to reduce resources in recent years in terms of dollars and staffing. To ensure our shrinking resources remain focused on its core missions, there have been several initiatives to review the work being performed that is not required by NRC policy or law. We recently reviewed the requirements of the Interagency Working Group (IAWG) FEDS2 Database and its strategic goals. Though NRC has supported this endeavor in the past, the strategic goals of the IAWG are not directly relatable to the NRCs stated mission of licensing and regulating the Nations civilian use of radioactive materials to provide reasonable assurance of adequate protection of public health and safety and to promote the common defense and security and to protect the environment. With that in mind and the absence of a legal obligation to continue providing annual data pursuant to 22 USC 2460(g), please accept this email as notice that the NRC will discontinue providing updates to the IAWG Annual Reports effective with the FY 2016 report.
Thank you for your understanding. The NRC wishes the IAWG success in all future efforts.
