SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 25, 2021, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS APPLICABILITY OF REGULATIONS On August 25, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an observation public meeting with TerraPower, LLC (TerraPower) to discuss applicability of regulations for the Natrium Plant. The staff posted the meeting notice in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML21233A003. The presentation slides can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML21231A186. The enclosure to this document lists the meeting attendees who participated.

The open portion of the public meeting NRC staff provided an introduction and logistical information pertaining to the public meeting. The staff explained that the meeting was an observation meeting and that TerraPower representatives would provide the NRC staff with an overview of the process and methodology for establishing the initial set of the principal design criteria (PDC) and for evaluating applicable regulations on the Natrium.

During the meeting TerraPower representative provided an overview of the advanced reactor demonstration program, the safety features of the Natrium, regulatory engagement, and the licensing approach for the Natrium plant. TerraPower representatives al explained that they plan to submit a 10 CFR Part 50 application that will follow the licensing modernization project which will inform the content of their applications. The public had an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff at the end of the presentation. NRC staff closed the meeting asking for feedback, concerns, and any improvements that can be made to the public meeting process.
