No: 21-035 September 13, 2021 CONTACT: Office of Public Affairs, 301-415-8200 Executive Director for Operations to Leave the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for International Atomic Energy Agency Senior Position The Nuclear Regulatory Commission today announced that Margaret M. Doane, Executive Director for Operations, will leave the agency, effective Oct. 8, 2021, to begin her new role as Deputy Director General for Management at the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Margie has been an integral part of the NRC and U.S. federal government family for nearly 35 years. She remains an inspiring leader, committed to innovation and transformation, and renown in her many accomplishments, said NRC Chairman Christopher T. Hanson. Her vast regulatory knowledge, strong work ethic, positive attitude and cheerful personality will guide the work of our agency for years to follow. I wish her the best as she begins this next chapter of her professional career.

Doane, who has served as NRC EDO since July 2018, began her career at the agency as a special assistant in the Office of the Secretary. Her senior leadership roles included serving as an attorney in the Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication, chief of staff for former Commissioner Jeffrey S. Merrifield, and as the agencys general counsel. Doane has vast international experience, having served in the Office of International Programs both as deputy director and director.

The NRC has begun the process of identifying potential candidates for the EDO position.
