- 1. Follow-up re: cancellation of in-person meetings NNEPA has asked for formal notification via letter re: cancellation, would like to use to distribute, post at chapter houses etc.
Action: NRC to send. To whom should this letter be addressed and sent?
Besides the request from Standing Rock to meet in person, the NRC noted it has not gotten responses from the chapters regarding an online or telephone meeting. NNEPA asked to be copied on any correspondence to Chapter houses Action: NRC to send follow up emails to Chapters. Sent emails to Chapters this morning and copied NNEPA staff. D. Yazzie to follow-up with Chapter houses Meeting with Pipeline community: Lee Anna asked that NRC keep the community center available September 1 for a virtual meeting with Pipeline Community - she offered to go and set up a computer to conduct a meeting virtually with NRC Action: NNEPA to confirm meeting time and let us know what equipment is needed (projector, screen, landline speakerphone?) - need this information ASAP.
Action: NRC to mail remaining paper copies of EIS and other materials - Where should these go, some to the community center, others where?
- 2. Newspaper insert Gallup Independent published 8-page newspaper insert on August 21 and Navajo Times will publish on August 26 NNEPA asked we publish the newspaper insert again in September and October in both Navajo Times and Gallup Independent Action: NRC to look into publishing again and printing extra copies for handing out at community center.
- 3. Email to Director Shirley offering meeting (attached)
NRC asked if there was interest in a meeting from Director Shirley - D. Yazzie noted he has not looked into it D. Yazzie noted staff level communication has been occurring NNEPA suggested a letter from NRC to V. Shirley describing the NRCs outreach/perspective on whats been done to date NRC noted its June 28, 2021 letter President Nez letter (see below), which includes the
significant outreach to date; NRC staff noted there are additional items that have been done since the letter Action: NRC to follow up regarding additional letter December 21, 2020 - Letter from President Nez re: Request for DEIS Extension January 28, 2021 - NRC response to December 21 letter (granting extension)
April 12, 2021 - Letter from President Nez re: Comments on Draft EIS May 18, 2021 - NRC response to April 12 letter May 26, 2021 - Letter from President Nez re: Second extension request June 28, 2021 - NRC response to May 26 letter (granting extension)
- 4. Resolution of DEIS comments - NRC proposal for discussing NNEPA comments on the Draft EIS NRC staff stated it was open to discussing the NNEPAs comments as discussed during the last biweekly call (on August 6); NRC proposed to expand the biweekly calls to 1.5 hours5.787037e-5 days <br />0.00139 hours <br />8.267196e-6 weeks <br />1.9025e-6 months <br /> - D. Yazzie stated his staff cannot commit to the time needed to go through the comments and meet with NRC staff, NNEPA feels these conversations are premature given the comment period has not ended, NRC staff noted that the staff would be available to discuss questions/provide any clarifications to NNEPA staff NNEPA asked for NRC process for responding to comments -
