SUMMARY
OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2021 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public observation meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on September 2, 2021. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss license amendment request (LAR)21-001 regarding clarification of inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria (ITAAC) regarding invessel components.
The meeting notice can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21238A076. The meeting notice was also posted on the NRC public website. Enclosures 1 and 2 are the meeting agenda and attendance list for the meeting, respectively. The document referenced during the discussion can be found at the ADAMS Accession No. given below:

P. McKenna Meeting Summary On September 2, 2021, NRC staff held an observation public meeting with SNC to discuss LAR 21-001, Clarification of ITAAC Regarding Invessel Components, and the associated exemption to clarify ITAAC regarding invessel components. The purpose of this meeting was for SNC to present the changes made to the LAR since the August 19, 2021 public meeting, one topic of which was a pre-submittal discussion of the draft version of LAR 21-001 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21230A016). SNC revised the draft LAR based on feedback provided by the NRC staff during that meeting and then formally submitted LAR 21-001 on August 24, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21236A305).
LAR 21-001 and its associated exemption request proposes changes to the following ITAAC:
- ITAAC index number 68 (2.1.03.01)
- ITAAC index number 75 (2.1.03.06.i)
- ITAAC index number 515 (2.5.01.03e)
- ITAAC index number 565 (2.5.05.02.i)
- ITAAC index number 570 (2.5.05.03b)
SNC staff described all of the changes that were made to LAR 21-001 to address comments provided by individual NRC staff members during the August 19, 2021 public meeting. Below is a summary of the comments and discussions:
- The NRC staff commented that the updated discussion regarding the proposed change to ITAAC Index number 570 was helpful in clarifying the scope of that ITAAC.
- The NRC staff noted that LAR 21-001 was formally accepted for review on August 30, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. Ml21242A009).
At the conclusion of the discussion, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. There were no comments or questions from the public.
