Dear Ms. Brock:
This letter is to inform you that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has completed its Preliminary Capabilities Assessment (PCA) of the State of Mississippi and the local risk county offsite response organizations continued capability to adequately respond to an incident at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.
On August 31, 2021, a comprehensive investigation and collection of field data was performed by FEMA Region IV. In addition, FEMA Region IV sought input and concurrence from FEMA Region VI on the off-site capabilities of the State of Louisiana and Tensas Parish as it relates to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station.
Based on the review of all of this information, FEMA concludes that all community lifelines remain stable and offsite radiological emergency preparedness is adequate to provide reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at GGNS. The State of Mississippi, State of Louisiana and affected parishes/counties surrounding the GGNS maintain the ability to implement their emergency radiological plans as written. A formal Disaster Initiated Review is not recommended.
