COVID-19 PANDEMIC:
OVERSIGHT &
LESSONS LEARNED
STATUS OF THE ROP - COVID-19 Accomplished both onsite and remote oversight activities at operating reactors during the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency, while taking precautions to minimize exposure to COVID-19.
Achieved reasonable assurance of safe plant operation.
Completed 99% of required baseline inspection program in CY 2020.
CY 2021 plan is completion of nominal inspection samples.
INITIAL COVID-19 LESSONS LEARNED 17-member team from various offices throughout the Agency.
Initial report issued in January 2021, which concluded that the oversight of nuclear power reactors during the pandemic was appropriate considering the circumstances.
NRC staff adapted to working remotely and the challenges the pandemic presented.
NRC staff learned a great deal in a very short time, and the lessons learned and best practices identified should prove highly beneficial for future emergencies that limit or prevent access to nuclear plant sites.
