VISION Give staff the courage to make real change MISSION We are creative catalysts who remove barriers to innovation and launch initiatives that improve the way we work to make SAFE use of nuclear technology POSSIBLE
Creative Catalyst As in chemistry, there's a proven way to make change happen:
add a catalyst. Enter EMBARK.
EMBARK channels energy and ideas providing alternative routes to reduce the amount of energy required for positive changes to occur. Rather than pushing, or applying heat and pressure, EMBARK removes barriers.
We ENABLE We ADVISE We PARTNER We CREATE We TEACH OPERATING MODEL We INSPIRE.
No two EMBARK projects are alike so how we engage varies.
DEPARTMENTS THE GARAGE The Garage is our process improvement effort. It is the place where we tune up our processes and upgrade our procedures to transform the way we regulate for the nuclear future. We are looking at our approach and prototyping new ideas.
NEUROLOGY Neurology is about understanding risk, overcoming fear of failure, challenging the status quo, and breaking down barriers.
We envision an agency that proactively and creatively adapts to our environment while staying true to our mission.
NEXTGEN DATA NextGen Data is focused on taking data to the masses, leveraging the data we have in innovative ways to bring transparency and greater understanding for better regulatory decisionmaking.
- HASHtagchange HASHtagChange is all about improving the experience for our internal and external stakeholders and providing more effective tools that enhance the way we interact with each other.
EVALUATING "BUSINESS AS USUAL" Mission Analytics Portal Risk Informed Process for Evaluations Subsequent License Renewal Enhancements ASME Code Rulemaking Request for Confirmatory Information Streamlined Safety Evaluations
Completed a recommendation report for consideration by NRC management for streamlining Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 50.55a, Codes and standards.
ASME Code Rulemaking
Created a subset of the standard request for additional information process that may be used to facilitate the licensee docketing of high-confidence, low complexity, factual information that was identified by or presented to the staff during the review process. A more efficient and effective means of communication.
Request for Confirmatory Information
Developed a streamlined safety evaluation (SE) template and first-of-its-kind SE content guide to improve the clarity, conciseness, consistency, and completeness of SEs.
Streamlined Safety Evaluations
Facilitated the use of data and data analytics to enhance our regulatory decisionmaking while automating business processes.
Mission Analytics Portal
Established a more efficient means to review licensing actions that address low-safety-significance issues within the licensing basis by leveraging current regulations and risk-informed initiatives to allow licensees to request plant-specific exemptions or license amendments for low-safety-significance issues using a streamlined NRC review process.
Risk Informed Process for Evaluations
Subsequent License Renewal Enhancements Partnered with our staff in the Division of New and Renewed Licenses and completed a process improvement evaluation for subsequent license renewals. Identified activities that could be enhanced during the safety review while maintaining effectiveness, many of which are currently being implemented in ongoing reviews.
