The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) published the following final rule in the Federal Register:

Title:

Emergency Preparedness for Small Modular Reactors and Other New Technologies

  • Description of the document: This final rule amends the NRCs regulations to include new alternative emergency preparedness requirements for small modular reactors and other new technologies such as non-light-water reactors. The new requirements acknowledge technical advances and other differences from large light-water reactors that are inherent in small modular reactors and other new technologies.
  • Dates: The effective date of this final rule is 30 days after publication.
  • This is not a major rule as defined by the Congressional Review Act.
