Dear Mr. Keele:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff received your letter titled Triennial Evaluated Force-on-Force Cycle Schedule (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System accession number ML21182A308) and has conducted a review of the information contained within. Your letter stated that Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy), Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO), Units 1 and 2, is formally requesting a schedule change to the NRC-evaluated force-on-force (FOF) cycle year because (1) the current ANO FOF occurs in the same year that the site has both spring and fall refueling outages and (2) from a staffing perspective, the schedule is particularly challenging for the ANO Security Department to support a triennial FOF inspection during a dual outage year.
The staff finds reasonable Entergys request to shift the NRC-evaluated FOF inspection from the second year of the FOF inspection cycle to the first year, and therefore approves the new schedule accordingly. ANOs currently scheduled NRC-evaluated FOF inspection in August 2021 remains unchanged; following the 2023 inspection, ANO will resume a triennial schedule.
