SUBJECT:

X ENERGY, LLC -CNSC-USNRC FEEDBACK REGARDING JOINT REPORT CONCERNING X-ENERGYS REACTOR PRESSURE VESSEL CONSTRUCTION CODE ASSESSMENT WHITE PAPER

Dear Dr. van Staden:

By letter dated July 13, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML20202A598), X Energy, LLC (X-energy), submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) the white paper Reactor Pressure Vessel Construction Code Assessment White Paper for review and informal feedback on the approach X-energy has taken with regard to code identification, assessment and selection, and the adequacy of the regulatory analysis and conclusions made in the code selection for the reactor pressure vessel (RPV).

In July 2020, X-energy began a Phase 2+ vendor design review (VDR) with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The primary purpose of a VDR is to provide feedback to the vendor about how it is addressing Canadian regulatory requirements and the CNSCs expectations in its design and design activities. As part of X-energys submission for Focus Area 11, Pressure Boundary Design, pursuant to the VDR, X-energy submitted the same RPV construction code assessment white paper that it submitted to the USNRC.

The enclosure of this letter provides both regulators staffs detailed observations for X-energy to consider.

The Enclosure to this letter contains Proprietary information. When separated from the Enclosure, this document is DECONTROLLED.
