SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - EXEMPTION FROM CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR PART 50, SECTION 50.46 AND APPENDIX K (EPID L-2020-LLE-0169)
Dear Mr. Barstow:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the enclosed exemption from specific requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Part 50, Section 50.46, Acceptance criteria for emergency core cooling systems [ECCS] for light-water nuclear power reactors, and Appendix K to 10 CFR Part 50, ECCS Evaluation Models for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. This action is in response to your application dated September 23, 2020, as supplemented by letters dated May 5, 2021, and August 13, 2021, that requested exemption from the above regulations to allow for the use of Optimized ZIRLOTM fuel cladding. The related license amendment request is addressed in separate correspondence (ADAMS Accession No. ML21245A267).
A copy of the exemption is enclosed. The exemption has been forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
