TheNRCis developing apredictable, andappropriately
- flexible, framework toenable amoreefficient licensing process. The framework will accommodate various advanced reactor technologies, prioritizing risk-informed andperformance-based licensing approaches toprotect public healthand safety throughout thelife ofafacility.
Asnoted inyourletter, completing this rulemaking onanaccelerated schedule requires substantial efforts andresources.
TheNRCcontinues toengage withandseekinput from numerous stakeholders, including theU.S.Department
- ofEnergy, trade
- groups, vendors, developers, nongovernmental organizations, membersofthepublic,
- Congress, andthe NRC's Advisory Committee onReactor Safeguards onthedevelopment ofthis proposed rule.
The Commission will submit areport toCongress byJuly 14,2021,toprovide adetailed account of theNRC'sprogress toward establishing this regulatory framework foradvanced reactor technologies.
