SUMMARY
OF TELECONFERENCE HELD ON APRIL 6, 2021, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMISSION AND KAIROS POWER, LLC TO DISCUSS REVISION 1 OF KP-TR-007-NP QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM FOR THE KAIROS FLOURIDE SALT-COOLED HIGH TEMPERATURE REACTOR TOPICAL REPORT The objective of the meeting was for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to obtain clarification on changes made to Revision 1 of Kairos Power, LLCs (Kairos) Quality Assurance Program (QAP) Topical Report (TR) Quality Assurance Program for the Kairos Power Flouride Salt-Cooled High Temperature Reactor Topical Report dated March 31, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21071A081).
The NRC staff noted that the first sentence of the second paragraph in Section 1.2.5 of the QAP TR (page 11), may need some corrections as it was difficult to read. Kairos agreed with the staffs observation and stated that it will revise the sentence to make it clearer.
The staff noted that the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) conditions listed on Section 7.2 (pages 27-28) of the QAP TR are not in alignment with Revision 1, of Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI)14-05A, Guidelines for the Use of Accreditation in Lieu of Commercial Grade Surveys for Procurement of Laboratory Calibration and Test Services, as approved by the staff final safety evaluation dated November 23, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20322A019). The staff stated that for Kairos to be able to use the provision of NEI 14-05A, Revision 1, which endorses the use of ISO [International Standards Organization] 17025 (2017),
its QAP description must contain all the conditions listed in NEI 14-05A. Kairos stated that they will revise Section 7.2 of the QAP TR to align with its QAP commitment and ILAC conditions with those in Revision 1, of NEI 14-05A. Kairos also stated that it plans to incorporate the changes discussed during the meeting in a Revision 2 of the QAP TR to be submitted to the staff within a few weeks.
