SUMMARY

- 2020 ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING REGARDING VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, DOCKET NO. 50-395; NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-338 AND 50-339; AND SURRY POWER STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-280 AND 50-281, MEETING NUMBER 20210382 On April 22, 2021, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a live virtual meeting concerning Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, North Anna Power Station and Surry Power Station. The purpose of the meeting was to provide opportunities for the public to discuss the annual assessment for the period of January 1, 2020, through December 31, 2020.

In response to the COVID-19 coronavirus and updated Federal Government guidance on travel and social distancing, the meeting was held remotely through the Microsoft Teams application.

Additionally, a call-only telephone bridge line was available.. The following documents related to the meeting are available in ADAMS: Meeting Notice (ML21102A257), Assessment Meeting Presentation (ML21090A098).

The meeting was conducted from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Meeting attendees consisted of representatives from the NRC, Dominion Energy, U. S. congressional staffers and members of the public. Due to the nature of the meeting, no official list of attendees is included. NRC staff were available for questions following each presentation. There was minimal interaction with the public which was consistent with the typical annual assessment meetings conducted near the station.

Dumbacher 2 A general comment was received about the timeliness of the annual radioactive effluent and environmental reports being published to the public website; and the desire to have the latest reports publicly available prior to the annual assessment meetings. Additionally, the public member noted the latest North Anna report published was 2018. The NRC staff noted the comments and also provided the ADAMS accession number to the North Anna 2019 report (ML20122A157). Another member of the public expressed a general concern regarding the efficacy of remote inspections with aging plants but did not provide any specific concerns or details. The staff reiterated that the only portions of the inspections were completed remotely, and it was typically document review activities. The staff also detailed the level of consistent and continuous communication between the NRC inspectors and the licensee. Lastly, a question was raised on whether the NRC staff had access to vendor/contractor documents.

The NRC staff confirmed we have access to information including vendor/contractor documents to complete a thorough inspection, as applicable.

The meeting was listed in the Public Meeting Feedback System under Meeting Code 20210382 and as of the date of this memo, there was one feedback response submitted.
