STAFF RESPONSE TO THE OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERALS AUDIT OF NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS BUDGET EXECUTION PROCESS (OIG-13-A-18)
This is a status update to the Office of the Inspector Generals (OIG) report for Audit OIG-13-A-18, Audit of NRCs Budget Execution Process, dated May 7, 2013.
Recommendation 3:
Enforce the use of correct budget object codes.
Status:
The NRC has implemented multiple efforts in response to this recommendation. The Strategic Acquisition System (STAQS) requires the use of Budget Object Classification Codes (BOCs) in requisitions and has a pick list of BOCs to choose from to ensure that only current BOCs can be used. The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) updates and distributes a BOC guide annually to all offices. Additionally, the OCFO has conducted multiple communications to reiterate the importance of Contracting Officers Representatives (CORs) and Funds Certifying Officers utilizing and confirming the correct BOC. These communications include presentations at the March 2021 COR Townhall and the March 2021 Corporate and Mission Support Monthly Meeting, as well as, an April 22, 2021, memorandum (ML21106A064) to the offices. These actions close this recommendation.
