NRC MISSION STATEMENT The NRC licenses and regulates the Nation's civilian use of radioactive materials to provide reasonable assurance of adequate protection of public health and safety and to promote the common defense and security and to protect the environment.

REACTOR OVERSIGHT PROCESS 5

INSPECTION o 11 Regional Inspections in Radiation Protection, Security, Cyber Security, Design Basis Assurance, and Emergency Planning o 2 resident inspectors on site - issue four quarterly inspection reports per year and walk through the plant routinely PERFORMANCE INDICATORS o 17 Performance Indicators o Licensee submits data to NRC quarterly o Inspection program verifies accuracy o Data available on NRC website REACTOR OVERSIGHT PROCESS 6

RESIDENT INSPECTOR PROGRAM o Inspectors live in the community and work at the Nuclear Plants o Provide routine oversight at the plants 7

RESIDENT INSPECTOR PROGRAM o Routine visits to control room and meetings with plant managers o Prioritize inspections based on important plant activity 8

RESIDENT INSPECTOR PROGRAM Observe emergency exercises and provide support for any real emergencies or urgent issues 9

RESIDENT INSPECTOR PROGRAM o Support NRC allegation process for plant employees and the public o Routinely discuss safety concerns with plant management and operators 10

o All Performance Indicators were Green o 3 Green non-cited violations o 1 Green Finding o 1 White Violation - Emergency Preparedness Cornerstone VOGTLE UNITS 1 & 2 FINDINGS & PERFORMANCE INDICATORS January 1 - December 31, 2020 Southern Nuclear Operating Company did not properly calibrate containment radiation monitors which could have resulted in offsite response organizations implementing unnecessary public protective actions Vogtle Units 1 & 2 were in the NRC Regulatory Response Column (Column 2) during the first and second quarter 2020 On June 24, 2020, the NRC completed a review of corrective actions and determined the actions restored compliance for these monitors and returned Vogtle to the licensee response column in the third quarter of 2020 12
