Licensing Projects Branch Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MARCH 31, 2021, PUBLIC MEETING ON THE STATUS OF THE STANDARD REVIEW PLAN MODERNIZATION EFFORT AND OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT On March 31, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a comment-gathering meeting with members of the public. The purpose of this meeting was for the NRC:
- 1) to present information explaining the NRC Standard Review Plan (SRP) Modernization (SRPMod)
Effort and 2) to obtain feedback on the SRPMod effort. The meeting was noticed on March 18, 2021, and is available at the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML21085A696. A copy of the presentation slides can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML21077A161.
During the meeting, the NRC staff briefed attendees on the purpose and objectives of the SRPMod effort, an overview of the effort, a description of the project plan, and had a technical staff member describe the actions that will be taken to modernize an existing SRP section.
There were two public comments during the questions phase of the meeting:
- 1. Will the SRP modernization effort include identification/alignment of content that would be applicable to a new reactor application with emphasis on PSAR/FSAR/COL level of detail? Currently that level of detail is inconsistent.
- 2. Will this effort include an alignment between the SRP and similar regulatory guidance such as Regulatory Guide 1.70 which establishes content for a new reactor applicantso both the applicant and the staff reviewer have the same/similar content guidance?
The staff will be responding to these questions.
