DOCKET NUMBERS 50-483 AND 72-1045 CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 UNION ELECTRIC CO.

RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-30 STATUS OF PLANT DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING AND ISFSI DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING PLAN In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.75(f)(1), which requires reporting ofthe status of reactor decommissioning funding, and of 1 0 CFR 72.30 on financial assurance and recordkeeping for Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) decommissioning, Union Electric Company (Ameren Missouri) hereby submits its Callaway Plant Decommissioning Funding Status Report and updated ISFSI Decommissioning Funding Plan for the ISFSI located at the Callaway Plant site. These reports are provided as enclosures to this letter.

10 CFR 72.30 requires ISFSI decommissioning funding plan updates to be submitted at intervals not to exceed 3 years, while the status ofthe decommissioning funding plan for reactors is required to be reported on a 2-year interval per 10 CFR 50.75(f)(1). Under this letter, the ISFSI decommissioning funding plan is being reported earlier than when the 3-year maximum interval would end. This is being done in order to bring the submittal times for the two reports to the NRC together (based on a 2-year interval) and thus provide the reports via one submittal, as well as to coordinate the ISFSI decommissioning report for the NRC with a separate ISFSI decommissioning report required for the State of Missouri, the latter of which is a filing of updated decommissioning cost estimates and associated funding levels for the ISFSI per Missouri regulation 20 CSR 4240-20.070, Decommissioning Trust Funds. The intent, therefore, beginning now and for all future reports required per 10 CFR 50.75(0(1) and 10 CFR 72.30, is for Ameren Missouri to submit both reports to the NRC via one submittal at two-year intervals.
