GENERIC ISSUE MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM REPORT FOR THE FIRST HALF OF FISCAL YEAR 2021 Enclosed for your information is the Generic Issue Management Control System report for the first half of fiscal year 2021 covering the period from October 2020 through March 2021. The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research is addressing this report of active generic issues (GIs) to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) because NRR is implementing the active GI, which was closed during this period. This report is also being provided to the other regulatory offices for information.
The enclosure summarizes the status, activities, and final completion dates associated with the completed GI and the status, activities, and decision point for the proposed GI. The following describes the significant activities that occurred during this reporting period for the active GI:
The NRC has closed out GI-199, Implications of Updated Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Estimates in Central and Eastern United States on Existing Plants. All required actions have been implemented by licensees, and the NRC has verified these actions.
In regard to the potential GI related to the effects of HEAF involving aluminum at nuclear power plants, the staff continued to assess whether the issue should proceed to the implementation stage of the GI process as described in the enclosure. Data is currently being developed that will support a decision on this in the summer/fall 2021 timeframe.
The NRC provides more detailed information on each active GI on the GI Dashboard. The GI Dashboard is located on the NRCs internal Web site at http://gid.nrc.gov/Planning and on the NRC's external Web site at https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/gen-issues/dashboard.html.
