TEUSA Interfaces White Paper Feedback Date: Thursday, January 21, 2021 1:44:00 PM By letter dated December 4, 2020, Terrestrial Energy USA (TEUSA) submitted a revised white paper on Interfaces Between the IMSR Core-Unit and Reactor Auxiliary Building Structures and Systems.
This revised version of the white paper contains modifications made in response to the NRC feedback provided in July 2020. TEUSAs letter indicated that it provided the white paper and responses to NRC feedback for information. In addition, the letter indicated that TEUSA is not opposed to additional NRC review of the white paper if the NRC believed that additional feedback would give TEUSA additional clarity for future reports. See below NRC feedback in response to your letter transmitting this revised white paper.
- 1. The NRC staff performed a limited review of the revised Interfaces White Paper based on the time allowed. This feedback does not result from a complete review but does indicate that the staff was generally agreeable to the information provided in the revision given the review constraints.
- 2. There are several responses which stated that TEUSA agreed with the staffs comments and would address them in a future submittal. The staff does not have a problem with this approach, but it should be noted that the staffs review obviously doesnt cover future changes to the White Paper or other licensing actions.
- 3. In the response to staffs question 2.2d (labeled 2.2-c in the TEUSA response), TEUSA states that the Makeup Fuel System is being designed to preclude the possibility of inadvertent criticality. Since the detailed design and analysis is not available to the staff at this point, we can not comment further on this item.
